Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Introduction
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 by Simpson Spence Young LLP, a Delaware limited liability partnership (“SSY”).
Our Business
SSY is the world’s largest independent shipbroker. We are a privately owned partnership with over 650 employees, operating across 28 offices worldwide. We provide broking and advisory services across all major shipping sectors, including Dry Cargo, Tankers, LNG, LPG, Ship Sale & Purchase, Offshore, Chemicals, Ship Recycling, Towage, Corporate Finance, and Freight Derivatives, together with shipping research and data services.
Our Supply Chain
SSY’s supply chain principally comprises professional services, IT and technology, communications, travel, accommodation, and office and property services providers.
Our Policies on Slavery and Human Trafficking
SSY has zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking and is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships across the world.
SSY’s Code of Conduct requires all employees, partners, and agents to comply with applicable law, including all relevant labour laws. SSY’s HR and procurement policies reflect applicable UK law.
Due Diligence and Risk Assessment
SSY takes reasonable and proportionate steps to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking do not occur in its business or supply chains.
SSY has assessed the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking in its business and supply chains. SSY’s workforce is engaged in professional and specialist roles under written contracts of employment in compliance with applicable law. SSY’s supply chain is predominantly based in the UK and other developed economies. No instances of modern slavery or human trafficking were identified in SSY’s business or supply chains during the financial year covered by this statement.
Next Steps
We are reviewing the effectiveness of the current arrangements in order to improve our understanding and awareness of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and in our business, and to mitigate these risks.
Where necessary, we will implement new procedures and develop training for the relevant members of staff.
